  • Green Market  I am sure the we all enjoyed the Green Market the was located on 34th Avenue at 78th Street -- In front of Travers Park. They are back and better than ever -- my favorites are the baked goods where they sell not only bread and such but also wonderful knishes -- potato, spinach and more.  And of course there is fresh vegetables  to be had.  New this year is lamb vendor who offers all sorts of lamb based meats -- including sausage and franks.

  • Schools Both new schools opened last September -- Good Luck to all the students and teachers in attendance. I am sure that these new facilities will help alleviate the chronic over crowding at the local schools.

  • Christmas Trees The Heights will be decked out  for the winter season starting around the second weekend in December. If you have not been in the neighborhood at this time of the year to see the lights and trees you owe it to yourself to do a small walking tour of the historic district.

  • Café' Greco at 79-08 37th Avenue.  Can it really be that Rudy (our next City Councilmen) opened Grecos more than four years ago??.   Estephan has evolved the place since taking the helm and things are still wonderful.  Available are the  Italian and French pastry such as croissants, brioches, Cannoli and Millefoglie.

For lunch or a light dinner you can enjoy a hot soup or a pannini ( a mini French hero) with a variety of filings. Beverages include a range of espresso, latte's cappuccino's and sodas and waters.   Generally open to 10 PM weekdays and whenever on weekends Café' Greco is a welcome and welcoming addition to the Heights. New to the menu is the Cuban Sandwich and a brunch on Sunday

Tuneful Tuesdays are still in evidence as well as music on Thursdays.

Hours of operation are now in the range of 8 AM to 11 PM weekdays and Saturday, 10 PM on Sunday.
